About This Product
Beeswax comb foundation, also called beeswax sheet, is a thin sheet of pure beeswax pressed on both faces with hexagonal cell bases of the shape honeybees build themselves. Standard sheets measure 41 × 19.5 cm, 41 × 25 cm, 34.5 × 12.5 cm or 34.5 × 20.5 cm, and other sizes are made to order; they are packed 30 sheets to a box and 10 boxes to a carton. Beekeepers fix the foundation into a wooden frame before the frame goes into the hive, giving the colony a straight, even base on which to draw out comb. Because the western honeybee (Apis mellifera) and the Asian honeybee (Apis cerana cerana) build cells of different sizes, foundation is embossed for each species. Wax properties such as melting point and acid value are not part of this specification and are confirmed on enquiry. Beeswax supplied for use in beekeeping is an animal by-product under UK and EU rules, so imports need the official health certificate for apiculture by-products. Confirm the cell size for your bees and the frame dimensions before ordering.
