About This Product
Rubber grade stearic acid is a fatty acid aimed at rubber and tyre compounding. Its specification calls for a titre of 50 °C minimum, an acid value of 196–216 mg KOH/g and a saponification value of 197–217 mg KOH/g. Colour is limited to 30.0 Y / 5.0 R on a 5¼-inch Lovibond cell and to 7 on the Gardner scale, and the material comes in bead or flake form. In sulphur vulcanisation the acid works with zinc oxide to activate the cure, and it also serves as a processing and dispersion aid within the compound. Tyres and general rubber goods are its established markets. The iodine value appears as 3.0 maximum in cg I₂/100 g, an unusual unit that buyers should check against the specification at enquiry. Confirm form, packing and test methods for the order, ask for hazard data and analytical results covering the delivered batch, and qualify the grade in the compound before production use.
